DEVELOPMENT OF A SEMI-DISTRIBUTED HYDROLOGICAL MODEL FOR GLACIATED PUNATSHANGCHU BASIN IN BHUTAN

Hydropower plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Bhutan where water resource is abundantly available and therefore several hydropower plants are being planned few under construction. However, with presence potentially dangerous glacier lakes within higher elevations, country always at risk Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) climate change which poses uncertainty regarding sustainability reservoirs long run. To understand hydrological response basin, new going to be installed soon, complex semi-distributed model has been prepared for Punatshangchu basin using RS MINERVE. After calibration validation model, it observed that reflects low relative volume bias (-0.196 - 0.050) high Nash efficiency (0.540 0.990) an important aspect considered any dam its operational schemes. Such viable tool well adapted flood forecasting system management. With built-in scheme hydropower, reservoir, planner, turbines Minerve, could used array scenarios planning operations.
